Mass Attack Juggernaut

As well as their protein products, Boditronics also have a superb range of weight gainers and new to this family is Mass Attack Juggernaut which is an all-in-one weight gainer, that is a product which provides all of the nutrients required for maximal recovery and growth but also includes ergogenic performance ingredients. The first thing that leaps out at me is the ingredients profile. Most weight gainers rely on large amounts of cheap and processed high GI carbohydrate sources which whilst being an effective way of adding calories, can also cause insulin spikes and fluctuating blood sugar levels. In Juggernaut however the carbohydrate sources are from natural low GI ground oats, durum wheat, barley malt and waxy maize starch so you get all of the calories with none of the high GI drawbacks. The protein component is a blend of whey, casein and soy along with an absolutely massive 12g of glutamine peptides (see Express Protein XTR-4 review above)and provides 57g of timed release protein per serving. So from the weight gainer perspective the essentials are in place but in a much more nutritious form than the typical weight gainer and on top of this, you get the performance ingredients. Firstly is creatine monohydrate which is one of the most important performance supplements of all time for increasing strength and lean mass. Secondly is my personal favourite, beta alanine, which forms carnosine in the body which in turn ‘mops up’ hydrogen ions. Hydrogen ions build up during intense bouts of exercise to form lactic acid which results in muscular fatigue. Beta alanine supplementation is proven to greatly reduce this process which then enables greater output, be it more reps or heavier weights. Next is the essential amino acid Leucine which is the amino that without which we could not form useable peptide chains efficiently and therefore would not recover as rapidly. Finally is taurine which is another amino acid and has been shown to help increase strength and increase muscular volume. So not only does Juggernaut provide the ingredients required to help make the workouts themselves more intense, it also provides the nutrition required to properly recover and grow!

In terms of flavour, well, the Rich Chocolate tastes like a shaker full of melted chocolate! There is the nutty hint of the oats and wheat and no sharp aftertaste that is often associated with all-in one products. 150g is a big serving but I had no problems getting it into solution in a shaker and this was one satisfying shake.
