Kinetica Oat Gain

Oat Gain, as the name suggests, is a weight gainer with oats as the main carbohydrate source. Oats are preferable to using the traditional and cheaper processed carb sources like dextrose and maltodextrin for several reasons. The first and probably the most significant is that oats have not been processed other than being ground into a fine powder and are therefore a totally natural source of nutrition. Secondly, you get all of the nutritional benefits associated with oats such as fibre, vitamins, minerals and even protein. Oats are not considered a ‘superfood’ for nothing! Of course using this low GI source is preferable to the high GI counterparts for maintaining optimal blood sugar levels and avoiding fat gain. As you would expect with a weight gainer there is also a large contingent of protein, in this case from Kinetica’s WPC80 that has been further enriched with organic virgin coconut oil, which is a source of MCT’s for energy and is highly nutritious in itself. Added to this is 3g of glutamine and 3.2g of taurine to support muscular recovery and muscle volume, along with Aminogen for enhanced protein utilisation and a vitamin blend to close off the formula. At 630 calories per serving with 82.2g of carbs (only 6.5g per 160g serving being sugar!) and 45.7g of protein, Oat Gain is in nutritional terms, an absolute powerhouse of all the required nutrients required for lean muscle growth.

You would think with the sheer size of the serving that mixability would be an issue but Oat Gain was a staple for me during the very busy BodyPower Expo and I didn’t once have a problem mixing up a shake. I tried both flavours and the Raspberry Yoghurt was very good, the slight sharpness of the yoghurt complementing the nutty background taste of the oats. The Chocolate Nut flavour was nice and rich, again complementing the taste and texture of the oats.

This is undoubtedly a high quality weight gainer which could be classed more as actual food rather than a sports supplement. Suited ideally to those wanting lean gains in mass or seeking a large amount of extra calories but wanting to keep those calories clean and nutritious. Jeff Baillie
